I'm an award winning freelance writer, photographer and editor specializing in travel, food and environmental topics. My work has been featured in USA Today, RV, ROVA, Acura Style, Better Homes and Gardens, National Geographic Green Guide, Scientific American.com and many others. Here are a few samples.
I've written about an incredible array of subjects and people, from dismantling bombs in the former Soviet Union and making electricity from microbes, to Broadway shows, mice, potential cures for cancer and what to eat at the Daytona 500. Most of all, I love writing about travel and food because those are the best ways to meet and mingle with people of other cultures whether in a far off place or right in your own city.
My book, Off the Beaten Page: The Best Trips for Lit Lovers, Book Clubs, and Girls on Getaways, was inspired by my voracious reading habit, love of travel, and literary field trips with my book clubs. While that book tours the U.S., my latest book, Unique Eats and Eateries of the Twin Cities, explores both the great food and great neighborhoods of Minneapolis and St. Paul.
You can follow my travels on my blog, Off the Beaten Page Travel, where I explore the places where literature and travel intersect. I share ideas for book-related travel and examines the ways in which great authors give us a better understanding of the places we travel and the lives we lead.
I received a BA in history and journalism from the University of Michigan and an MA in journalism from Indiana University. Born and raised in Michigan, I currently live in Edina, MN (near Minneapolis) with my trophy husband and a big dog.
